Tutorial Tuesday - Mini Bow Clip

Today's tutorial is another bow tutorial.

Let's face it, it's what I do.
Having a little girl does that to ya!
Sorry if you are bored with them.
But I promise a sewing tutorial for next week! :)

With that promise, let's begin:

Supply List:
{Remember this is enough to make two matching clips}
2 pieces of ribbon cut to 4 inches
2 pieces of ribbon cut to 3 inches
2 pieces of ribbon cut to 2 inches
An Alligator Clip
A Hot Glue Gun

Step 1: Place a small dab of glue inside the top part of the clip,
place one end of the 4 inch ribbon on the glue.
Begin wrapping it around to the top of the clip.

Step 2: Put a dab of glue on the top of the clip and secure the ribbon.

Step 3: Put two small drops of glue inside where the spring is located.
Stuff the ribbon in and secure it in the glue.

Step 4: Glue down the last part of the ribbon to the bottom of the clip.

The bottom of the finished clip will look like this:

Step 6: Now take one of the 3 inch ribbons and place a tiny amount of glue on one end.

Step 7: Wrap it around and form a circle by connecting the other end to the glued end.

Step 8: Place a line of glue inside the circle on the glued seam.
It should look like this:

Step 9: Pinch the ribbon together right over the seam to form a bow.

Step 10: Flip the bow over and put a line of glue on one side of outside seam.

Step 11: Take one of your 2 inch ribbons and place it on the line of glue.
Make sure the patterned side of the ribbon is facing up.

Step 12: Wrap the ribbon around the middle and secure on the other side
to form the middle of your bow.

Step 13: Put glue on the bottom of the bow.

Step 14: Glue it to your ribbon wrapped clip and your done!

Tutorial Tuesday - Pinwheel Bow - 6/1/10

Pinwheel Bow

Supply List:
7/8" Grosgrain Ribbon cut to 23 inches
Thread or craft wire
Hot glue gun
Center embellishment


Step 1) Hold the ribbon in your hand with one tail down.

Step 2) Bring the ribbon back up to make the second loop.

Step 3) Bring it back down to make the third and final loop.
The second tail should be facing up.

(It should look like this...I used the clips to hold it for the picture)

Step 4) Gather and pinch the ribbon in the center to form your bow.

Step 5) Wrap with thread or craft wire and tie it off to form the bow.

Step 6) Add a center embellishment and you have your bow!

Ribbon Flower Tutorial

Yes it's another bow tutorial.
I have a LOVE of creating bows to match my baby girl's clothes.
So bear with me..
These are really simple once you get the hang of it.

Ribbon Flowers

Supply List:
6 - pieces of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon,
cut to 3 inches and heat sealed.
Needle and Thread
Embellishment for the middle of your bow

Step 1) Fold a pieces of ribbon in half.

Step 2) Run a stitch through the end.

Step 3) Pull the ribbon to the bottom of your thread.

Step 4) Repeat steps 1-3 until all 6 pieces are strung like this:

Step 5) Hold the ribbons as tight as you can and pull the string through them.
A flower shape will start to form.

Step 6) Take the needle back through the stitch on the first petal. Like this:

Step 7) Pull the flower tight and tie off the thread on the back of the bow.

Step 8) Now you have your bow! Embellish the center

Step 9) And add a clip to the back.

Your finished!

I have had SO much fun these last few months making bows.

My baby girl is spoiled rotten and has a bow to match ALMOST every outfit!
It is something I have come to LOVE to do.

I decided to highlight a tutorial today
to show you another basic bow design.
All it truly takes is practice
and they turn out beautiful once you get the hang of it!
So grab your supplies and try it!

I used this tutorial from No Bow...No Go.
*Note: I don't have their templates, I just wrapped the ribbon around my fingers
and then took it off and made it even with one end facing left and on facing right.
I also only use Alligator Clips for the back.

Craft Itch

Today I got a craft itch and made some pretty fun creations.

Here is my diaper clutch for my baby girl.
I have been wanting to make one for the longest time,
and finally did it! I didn't round the flap on it, but love how it turned out.
I used this tutorial HERE.I also found this tutorial for
these cute ribbon flowers.
I changed mine a bit to look how I wanted it to.

It's been nice to get a couple projects done.

Lately I have been searching for a Butterfly Bow Tutorial.
I want to make one for Rylee for her first birthday,
because the party theme is butterflies.
I found these tutorials.

(I LOVE these, I might use them as an applique for a shirt for Rylee!)

Singed Flower
I am sure many of you know how to make these.
I have seen them everywhere and wanted some
for me and some for my baby girl.
Here is my tutorial!

Supply List:
-Organza fabric made of 100% nylon, rayon, or polyester
(you don't need much, so scraps will work)
-Scissors
-Lighter
-Needle and Thread
-Center Embellishment

Step 1) - Cut 4 circles out of the fabric.
I cute mine with one large and made the other three slightly smaller than eachother.Step 2) - Melt the edges of each piece using your lighter.
(The longer you heat a spot, the more curl you will get,
careful not to light it on fire)

Step 3) - Stack the pieces on top of eachother.

Step 4) - Take your needle and thread and put a stitch in the middle.

Step 5) - Tie it off in the back and embellish how you would like!

In the very first photo is my finished product,
I added a bobby pin to the back for fun hair accessory!

2" Mini Basic Bow

I love to make these with my ribbon scraps.
Someday Rylee will have hair,
and I will have quite the collection to adorn her lovely locks!

Supplies List:
7/8" Grosgrain Ribbon Scrap
3/8" Grosgrain Ribbon Scrap
Hot Glue Gun
Scissors
Lighter - to heat seal
Needle and Thread

Tutorial:
Step 1) Use a scrap or cut piece of 7/8" grosgrain ribbon to 3 1/2".
Prep the ribbon by heat sealing the ends.

Step 2) Fold the ribbon in half.

Step 3) Create a crease.

Step 4) Bring the ends to the middle crease,
and overlap just a little bit.

Step 5) Now with a needle and thread,
make a running stitch through the middle.

Step 6) Pull through and wrap the thread around the center.
Tie it off in the back of the bow.

Step 7) Cut a piece of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon to 2 1/4".Step 8) Place a small amount of glue on either side
of the center ribbon.
Fold to meet in the middle as shown:

Step 9) Place a dab of glue where you will be wrapping the ribbon.
Wrap the folded part (shown in step 8) around the center,
and then cut off the excess and glue closed.
Add your favorite clip or bobby pin and your done!
